The project for Tudor Cottages and Prospect House is a2d’s first experience of incorporating a grade II listed building into a mixed-use scheme.
Three existing office buildings are adapted into various styles of housing and office space. Tudor Cottages itself was converted back to its former 15th Century glory as 2 cottages. Prospect House was converted into 3 flats and 2 offices and the Annexe was completely re-configured into 3 terraced houses.
The key to the scheme was designing an additional 4th unit next to the Annexe to close the space and create a private garden / communal garden for all the residence to enjoy and overlook. This addition enabled the parking to remain separate at the rear of the site and each dwelling to have controlled access via the communal space.
Planning issues meant the project was delayed for many months but the project was finally completed in Autumn 2014.
